Most families in Bahrain start their child between ages 6 and 10. A later starter still benefits, moving through the same 10 levels at a quicker pace in the early stages.
A note from the founder
Some children take to the beads in a week. Some need a month of patient repetition before a number clicks. Both are fine.
What we do not do is give up on a child. Classes stay at ten children at most, so every hand is seen. After most classes you get a note about what went well and what to practise.
We keep going, level by level, until your child solves sums with confidence and math stops being the hard part of the school day.

Questions parents ask
What age is best to start abacus classes?
Six to twelve is the range we teach, and each lesson is paced to the child rather than to their age. A child turning six soon can book as 5, and a 13-year-old can book too. Every child starts at Level 1, whatever they already know.
What happens in the demo class?
Your child works on a real soroban with the instructor who would teach them, live, for half an hour, while you sit beside them. It is free and no card is needed. If you want a seat afterwards, it is offered by invitation, and you have 14 days to decide.
How much do abacus classes cost?
One fixed fee for your country, the same for every family there. We send it in writing with your demo time, so you can read it before the class rather than hear it on a call.
How much time does it take each week?
Two live classes of one hour, and about fifteen minutes of practice a day. The daily practice is what decides how fast a child moves, and it is the one part we cannot do for you.
Do the class times work outside India?
Yes. Batches are set for your time zone, and most families pick an after-school weekday slot or a weekend morning. Families in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Gulf, Canada, Australia and Singapore are taught live.
Do we need to buy an abacus?
No. The soroban and the workbook are sent to your door once your child takes a seat. For the demo there is nothing to buy or prepare: every child starts at Level 1.

- Mental calculation is already on the syllabus
- Bahrain's national Grade 4 maths curriculum lists mental calculation as a competency of its own: bridging through 100, adding 9, 19 or 29 by rounding and adjusting, doubling and halving. Abacus practises the same habit of holding numbers in the head, starting with beads and moving on to a pictured abacus.

- In government schools, the Ministry of Education sets final exams in maths, science, English and Arabic at the end of Grade 3, as preparation for later exams, and again at the end of Grade 6, where the result counts towards entry to intermediate school. Secure, quick arithmetic leaves a child's attention free for the reasoning those papers ask for.
- Who checks the schools
- The Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA), an independent body, reviews schools and reports on how effective each one is. The ministry licenses and monitors private schools, most of which teach in English. Abacus sits outside all of that: an after-school class in Bahrain time with no more than ten children, and a fee sent in Bahraini dinars, in writing, alongside your free demo time.
