Online abacus classes for kids in Oman.

Live on the soroban, ten children at most, a certified instructor, and a note to you after most classes.

Free, about half an hour, live. Nobody asks you to pay or decide anything on the call.

rough work

Tonight's homework

  1. 7 + 8 =14
  2. 7 + 8 =16
  3. 7 + 8 =
  4. 9 + 6 =?

Counting on fingers under the table. An hour for ten sums. And the quiet decision, somewhere around age seven, that they are just not a numbers person.

None of that is a verdict. It is a method nobody has taught them yet.

How abacus fits your child’s schooling, whichever curriculum they follow

British, American, IB, or CBSE: the mental maths skills children build with the Japanese soroban method sit underneath all of them. Here is what each stage tends to look like.

  1. Ages 5 to 7

    FS2 to Year 2 · KG to Grade 1

    Early years

Number sense, visualisation, and finger-to-bead confidence. Children build a physical model of how numbers behave before they meet column arithmetic in a workbook.

Counting on, counting back, and number bonds start to feel obvious rather than memorized.

  2. Ages 7 to 11

    Year 3 to Year 6 · Grade 2 to Grade 5

    Primary years

Mental addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at speed. After about a year of regular practice, most children begin the transition from physical beads to a mental abacus, doing the maths in their head.

Times tables, mental maths checks, and multi-step word problems start feeling routine, whichever curriculum sets them.

  3. Ages 10 to 12

    Upper primary and exam preparation

    Grades 5 to 6 · Years 6 to 7

Speed and accuracy under timed conditions. The mental abacus keeps arithmetic from becoming the bottleneck, so entrance assessments, external exams, and the jump to secondary school get your child’s full attention.

Steadier pace on timed papers and school assessments, and confidence walking into any maths test.

For children who have lost confidence with maths, or freeze on timed tests, the structured 10-level path tends to rebuild that confidence one level at a time. Each level gives a small, clear win.

After-school slots in local time that sit alongside the Sunday to Thursday school week, whichever curriculum your child follows.

Most families in Oman start their child between ages 6 and 10. A later starter still benefits, moving through the same 10 levels at a quicker pace in the early stages.

A note from the founder

Some children take to the beads in a week. Some need a month of patient repetition before a number clicks. Both are fine.

What we do not do is give up on a child. Classes stay at ten children at most, so every hand is seen. After most classes you get a note about what went well and what to practise.

We keep going, level by level, until your child solves sums with confidence and math stops being the hard part of the school day.

That is the promise I built Cliffpoint on.

Bring the sum that went wrong

Write a sum from tonight's homework. It is marked the way the soroban teaches it, one rod at a time.

Add or take away

No sum to hand? Try

47 + 38 =85

  1. set itSet 47 on the soroban.
  2. five friendTens: 3 won’t fit on the lower beads, so bring down the five-bead and take away 2.
  3. ten friendOnes: 8 won’t fit, so take away 2 and carry 1 to the tens.

The beads, move by move.

Two fingers, said out loud, until it happens without thinking. That is the first class.

  1. First, a free demo class.

About half an hour, live, on a real soroban, with you beside your child. No card needed.

  2. Then two classes a week.

One hour each, live, and about fifteen minutes of practice a day.

  3. A note after most classes.

So you know what to practise at home.

  4. A timed test closes each level.

Then the certificate, with your child's name on it.

Ten levels. Ten certificates.

Every school year has a prize day. A few children walk up; most clap. Here, no child sits in the audience: every level ends with a timed test, every answer visible to you, and a certificate when it is passed. We keep going until your child earns it.

Choose a level. Every child starts at Level 1.

Level 1, Foundation

The bead values, the fingering, and the three formulas everything afterwards is built on. By the end of it single-digit work is happening in the head, not on the desk. Every child begins here, including the ones who already like maths.

Levels 1 and 2: about the first 7 months.

Questions parents ask

All the questions, answered

What age is best to start abacus classes?

Six to twelve is the range we teach, and each lesson is paced to the child rather than to their age. A child turning six soon can book as 5, and a 13-year-old can book too. Every child starts at Level 1, whatever they already know.

What happens in the demo class?

Your child works on a real soroban with the instructor who would teach them, live, for half an hour, while you sit beside them. It is free and no card is needed. If you want a seat afterwards, it is offered by invitation, and you have 14 days to decide.

How much do abacus classes cost?

One fixed fee for your country, the same for every family there. We send it in writing with your demo time, so you can read it before the class rather than hear it on a call.

How much time does it take each week?

Two live classes of one hour, and about fifteen minutes of practice a day. The daily practice is what decides how fast a child moves, and it is the one part we cannot do for you.

Do the class times work outside India?

Yes. Batches are set for your time zone, and most families pick an after-school weekday slot or a weekend morning. Families in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Gulf, Canada, Australia and Singapore are taught live.

Do we need to buy an abacus?

No. The soroban and the workbook are sent to your door once your child takes a seat. For the demo there is nothing to buy or prepare: every child starts at Level 1.

Oman time, Cambridge-based maths and private schools

An hour ahead of most of the Gulf
Oman stays on UTC+4 all year. Muscat shares its clock with Dubai and is an hour ahead of Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait City and Manama, so a class time quoted for a neighbouring country will not read the same here. Batches for Oman are timed in Oman time, after school, and the fee is sent in Omani rials, in writing, with your demo time.
Cambridge-based maths in government schools
From 2017–18 the Ministry of Education brought a Cambridge-based maths curriculum, adapted for Oman, into government schools, beginning with Grades 1 to 4. It puts estimation and mental calculation strategies at the heart of number sense, and also teaches when a calculator is the right tool. Abacus adds steady practice on the mental side; most children move from beads to a mental abacus after about a year.
Private, international and Indian schools
The ministry approves the curriculum of every private school in Oman. International schools follow programmes from countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the UK, the US and France, and Indian schools offer CBSE under the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman. The soroban fits beside each as a calculation skill, not a rival syllabus.

Oman

Online abacus classes in Oman

Our live online programme is open to families across the Sultanate of Oman, with batches scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the local school week. Groups are capped at ten students and led by a certified instructor with 7+ years of teaching experience. Tuition is billed monthly in Omani rials, and the fee is sent in writing with your demo time; the toolkit is shipped separately. The 10-level structure suits children across both public and international schools.

Common questions from families in Oman

What time zones do you teach in for families in Oman?

All Oman batches run in Gulf Standard Time (GMT+4). Most families pick an after-school weekday slot or a Friday or Saturday morning batch. Timings stay consistent so it slots into your child's routine.

What are the fees for abacus classes in Oman?

One fixed monthly fee for Oman, in Omani rials, the same for every family there. It covers two live classes a week, eight a month, in a batch of at most ten. We send it in writing with your demo time, so you can read it before the class, and nobody asks you to pay or decide anything on the call. The abacus and workbooks are a one-off purchase, delivered to your address.

How does the abacus fit alongside Omani school maths curricula?

Both Omani national curriculum and international schools reward strong mental maths and number sense. The abacus builds those skills systematically, with the strongest results from children starting between Grade 1 and Grade 5.

What does the free demo class look like for Omani families?

A real 30-minute live class with our certified instructor over video, not a recorded promo. Your child tries the abacus, the instructor walks you through the programme, and you can ask about timings, OMR fees, and progression. No card required to book.
