- Double a nine times answer and the eighteen appears.
- Up to 18 x 10, the digits of each answer add to nine, inherited from the nines. It first breaks at 18 x 11, which is 198.
The easiest way to learn it
Multiply by twenty, then subtract two lots. For 18 x 6, twenty sixes are 120, two sixes are 12, and 120 minus 12 is 108.

18 x 7 is 126. The subtract-from-twenty method handles it cleanly: 140 minus 14 is 126.
