Patterns in the 19 times table
- Every answer sits exactly one lot below the matching twenty times answer. Twenty sevens are 140, so nineteen sevens are 140 take away 7, which is 133.
- The last digits count backwards: 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, and so on.
The easiest way to learn it
Work in the tens first. For 19 x 6, do 10 x 6 to get 60, then 9 x 6 to get 54, and add them for 114. Children who dislike subtracting often prefer this route.
